For many years now, we’ve had this family tradition around the holidays. We pick a cause and we all commit to doing something for that cause to brighten up the holidays of the people who need it the most. Typically, we do it the way we were taught – quietly. In one way or another, most faiths have a saying, “the left hand shouldn’t know what the right is doing.” So nobody hears about it, sees pictures, or participates. And that has worked out for us pretty well so far. But a few weeks ago, my family was sitting together and picking our cause and how best to approach it, and I thought… you know how we can make a bigger difference? By opening this up to everyone to chip in. We can be as quiet as we want and chip away at the causes we’re passionate about. But if we can provide an extra dollar, toy, or smile because someone else helped us, then why the heck wouldn’t we welcome that?
Welcome to our family tradition
We’ve always thought of the people who support our blog as family. You have been with us as we have grown and supported our learning. So it only feels right to open up this tradition to all of you. We’re partnering with Hope House NYC this year. They shelter, support, and guide women who need a second chance at life. What better gift could someone give for the holidays than a second chance?
What are we doing?
We’re putting together bags that are filled with the things Hope House has said these women need most, with an extra goody or two for good measure. We’ll assemble by hand and deliver to them personally.
How can you help?
You can help us make an even bigger impact by going to State of Benefit and sponsoring a bag (or two). Each bag is $35 and every penny goes to the products in the bag.
